Hi, My name is Atimango Gladys, 45 years old and a mother to 7 children. Two boys and five girls. We have been drinking water that is collected from river Nile directly for many years now. The water is not clean but because we can’t afford the cost of connecting tap water, we always drink from the Nile. The water smells some times when poured in the pot and stains metallic utensils some times.
We don’t spend much time at the river but only time is wasted on the way as the river is abit far from our home. When it rains, rain water carries human waste and animal waste all into the river infecting it more.
Due to the unclean water used, people are infected with water borne diseases like typhoid, diarrhea, stomach ache and skin rushes.
“We spend about 45000 shillings to pay medical bills in the health facility when one gets admitted. We do fishing to get money to pay the bills, says Gladys”.
Since we acquired the BSF through feat Africa, we have seen a great change in our lives, we have not experienced any water borne infections like typhoid, diarrhea, among others. We now pay fees for our children in time, we have money saved for developing our homes through infrastructure like houses, and dressing, feeding the family well and we live a healthy life now.
According to Gladys, “the water doesn’t smell after filtering, and we spend less time in getting clean drinking water now.”
Thank you feat Africa for the support rendered to us, may God bless you and continue to support other communities.
